Growing up in a dysfunctional environment gave Drananda first hand insight on how unresolved trauma can result in unimaginable pain. Drananda Summons is also aware of the vitality mental health is in the music industry.
What is your process for dealing with performance anxiety?
Mental health is important to me. It is so vital as an artist to be balanced especially as you deal with the highs and lows of the industry. So how I tackle dealing with anxiety is first meditating and praying. I constantly remind myself how far I’ve come and how much more work I must do, in order to earn my best deserving life. Also it is important to remind yourself in this world of instant gratification, that good things genuinely take time therefore I’m constantly practicing new levels of patience.
What are your thoughts on Mental Health in the Industry?
The interesting thing about mental health in the industry is first understanding who you are, and what you want. This is extremely important because it’s not only about making the success, it’s also about surviving the success. Therefore we as Artists are required to have a clear understanding of our intentions with every opportunity that is presented before us. It’s necessary to practice this level of awareness so the Artist is not taken advantage of or to assure that the Artist’s voice and vision align with their intentions.
